Fix Rust on My Car

Long-term corrosion protection using professional-grade products

Rustproofing protects your vehicle from moisture, road salt, and corrosion — extending the life of body panels, chassis components, and internal cavities. Whether you’re maintaining a daily driver, protecting a classic, or preserving a restoration, choosing the correct product for each area is critical.

This guide explains exactly what to use and where, using the rustproofing products we stock.

🔍 Step 1: Identify the Area You’re Protecting

Different parts of the vehicle require different types of protection.

🚪 Doors, Sills & Box Sections (Internal Cavities)

These areas trap moisture and are the most common rust failure points.

✅ Recommended Products

  • Dinitrol Penetrant LT

    • Ultra-thin, creeping corrosion inhibitor

    • Penetrates seams, spot welds, and overlaps

    • Ideal for early-stage corrosion and preventative treatment

  • Dinitrol 445

    • Long-term cavity wax

    • Self-healing and moisture-repellent

    • Excellent for doors, sills, pillars, and chassis box sections

Best application: Aerosol with lance or spray gun with cavity probe

🚗 Underbody & Chassis

Exposed to water, salt, and road debris — requires durable, impact-resistant coatings.

✅ Recommended Products

  • Dinitrol 977

    • Heavy-duty underbody wax

    • Excellent corrosion resistance

    • Ideal for chassis rails and underside protection

  • Dinitrol 447

    • Bitumen-based underbody coating

    • Tough, abrasion-resistant finish

    • Suitable for high-impact areas

  • Dinitrol 449

    • Thixotropic underbody wax

    • Flexible and self-healing

    • Ideal for classic cars where movement and vibration are a concern

Best application: Spray gun or aerosol depending on coverage area

🛞 Wheel Arches & High-Impact Areas

Stone chips quickly expose bare metal if not protected properly.

✅ Recommended Products

  • Dinitrol 447 – for maximum durability

  • Dinitrol 977 – for wax-based protection

These can be overpainted where required for a factory-style finish.

🧪 Step 2: Treat Existing Rust (Essential)

Rustproofing should never be applied directly over active rust.

✅ Recommended Product

  • Hammerite Kurust

    • Converts rust into a stable, paintable surface

    • Ideal for surface corrosion before wax or underbody coating

    • Essential prep step for long-term protection

🧼 Step 3: Preparation (Don’t Skip This)

Correct preparation dramatically increases product lifespan.

Before application:

  • Clean and dry the area thoroughly

  • Remove loose rust and flaking coatings

  • Degrease the surface

  • Apply Kurust where corrosion is present

  • Allow to fully cure before rustproofing

🛡️ Alternative Wax Protection (DIY Friendly)

For general protection and maintenance applications:

✅ Recommended Products

  • Hammerite Waxoyl – Clear (5L)

  • Hammerite Waxoyl – Black (5L)

  • Ideal for underbody and chassis protection

  • Suitable for spray gun or brush application

  • Popular for classic cars and seasonal protection

🎯 Aerosol or Spray Gun?

🔫 Aerosol

  • Ideal for DIY use

  • Perfect for cavities, repairs, and smaller areas

  • No compressor required

🧪 Spray Gun

  • Faster coverage on large areas

  • Best for full underbody or restoration projects

  • More economical for high-volume application
